Travel - The Coniston Hotel

Dot and I spent a lovely evening at The Coniston Hotel in North Yorkshire a few weeks ago, it really is a lovely place and super friendly staff. I'm pleased to announce I wrote a review of our stay for online newspaper the Yorkshire Times - my first for them but not my last. You can read the review here. Let me know what you think.

Interiors - animal accessories for the home

There’s a definite animal vibe going on this season. You can see it everywhere from the catwalk to cosmetics and even in the home if these cuties are anything to go by…

Children and sleep - how do you make sure they get enough?

We are three weeks into the new school term and I have a problem. How do I get my 11-year-old daughter to go to bed? I’m serious. It’s not like I can just carry her upstairs or put her to bed as I did when she was little – she’s as tall as I am! And I spend so much time telling her to go to bed I sometimes wonder if I’m just white noise in the background.

Beauty review - haircare

I have been meaning to write about Jo Hansford Illuminoil for a while - I thought I had done already actually, but a look back among the beauty posts and I can't find it so here goes... (darn you memory).

Food love - Flavrbox review

I'm delighted to have received a foodie gift from hamper supplier Flavrbox. The company is new and run by a group of people who love what they do and strive to offer customers something different to tickle their taste buds, searching out quality foods from niche producers, artisans, independents and small farmers around the world.

Beauty review: Pond’s beauty creams

Lovers of the iconic Pond’s Cold Cream may be interested to learn it has been relaunched.
Ponds, which has been in the business of beauty for many years, has revamped the product for a new and – I think – younger audience, presenting it in blush pink packaging designed to appeal to contemporary users.

New formulations and nostalgia

You know how some smells have the power to transport you to another place and time, well I thought that was going to happen to me this morning as I opened up a box of Pond’s Cold Cream.

In its iconic shaped glass jar, I remember it gracing the sideboard of a very dear friend, who at that time must have been in her sixties, compared to my youthful eight years or so.

Controversy = drama = more comments? No!

I spent a day last week at Blogcamp in London, meeting lots of lovely bloggers and listening to interesting and enlightening speakers. I learned a lot about Stumbled Upon, which is something I've long wondered about and I heard something that has been running back and forth in my mind ever since.

Controversy.

Eyebrow aid - beauty

I like the look of this eyebrow pencil from LCN. It comes in brown so is suitable for light and dark brows; there's a brush to keep brows groomed and under control, and there's a transparent gloss to finish them off. Ideal if like me you have the most unruly eyebrows in the universe.

Find it at www.bcidirect.com

Budget eyeshadows - new collection from Miners

Safari - a trio of bronze and brown shades. My favourite I think

Watch out for two new eyeshadow collections from Miners due in store soon. The budget brand certainly has its finger on the pulse with Trio (£3.99), which contains three shades you use together to create the ever-popular smokey eye in the new season's colours. It's available in Safari, Humbug, Stone-washed and Goddess.

Cat and dog draught excluders - a chill thrill

Instead of simply turning up the central heating to keep out the cold this winter, why not try a more traditional approach and treat yourself to one of these cute draught excluders.

Cuddle up in a comfy throw - Interiors

I love, love, love  this throw from Scarlet & Argent. John (my horse) had a Newmarket blanket like this and though I still have it, I don't think I can use it in the living room (too many horse hairs).

This though is ideal for snuggling up on the sofa watching TV. It's 100%  wool and looks quite  heavy, which is definitely a good thing - a lightweight Newmarket blanket just wouldn't be the same.

I'm told you can find it at Liberty in London and online here.

This is definitely going on my Christmas list.

Honey, honey - Nuage manuka skincare

I'm loving the Manuka Honey skincare range from Nuagé – I’ve tried the hand & nail cream and the face cream, both of which smell delicious.

The products contain vitamin E and shea butter as well as antibacterial manuka honey, which is usually present in mid market to expensive skincare products. This however is a budget range – great news – with the most expensive product coming in at under £10.

40s Chic - and so I am (!!)

It's that day again, the day when I climb ever further into my 40s. It amazes me just how quickly time passes - and how blinded we are by it. When I look in the mirror I still see a woman in her 20s and I feel no different than I did when I was 18, except perhaps I'm a little bit wiser and a lot more cynical.

One thing I've noticed when it comes to beauty, in your teens and 20s it doesn't matter what make-up you use or even if you have a skincare regime, you look good regardless. A couple of decades later and it does matter, very much so. This is the time that lack of cleansing, moisturising and sun protection comes back to bite you on the bum and when what you put on your face affects not only how you look but the ongoing appearance, even health of your skin.

Fashion - comfy jumpers for AW12

We're just on the cusp of summer into autumn and despite the warm Indian Summer days we're experiencing at the moment there's a nip in the air first thing in the morning.

I really noticed it when I was walking the dog on the village field earlier, so I was glad I'd worn one of my new jumpers from Primark. I bought several pieces with birthday money from my dad and I must say, I'm impressed. Usually I can't find anything that fits me in Primark, I find it's an inexpensive store that suits skinny teenagers and women that lack the, shall we say, fuller figure, I possess.

However, when I was in Newcastle last week I had a look around the MetroCentre branch and there were loads of lovely clothes, not just in the usual neutrals that I'm a fan of, but also in the jewel colours that are going to be big this season. Well, jumpers and me, let's just say I love cosy clothes and you don't get much cosier than a woolly jumper.

Beauty - Yves Rocher BB and FAB skincare tips

New from French beauty brand Yves Rocher comes a six-in-one BB cream. Another BB to add to the long list launched in the last couple of years, it contains white tea, which protects the skin, as well as ‘unifying pigments’ to even out skin tone.

Sublime Skin 6 in 1 also smooths and illuminates the skin, while moisturising for a whole 24 hours. I have yet to try it, but it sounds promising. It’s available in light and medium shades, and can be found here

Interiors - what's cooking in the kitchen?

While I was in Germany last week I visited the largest consumer trade fair in the world, IFA. I can hear you yawning from here, but in fact it was fascinating.

From my point of view I was focused on covering the home appliances section and there were some pretty wonderful things on show.
